Large buildings need multi-point testing that follows ANSI/AARST commercial protocols — one kit in the break room does not characterize a 20,000-square-foot slab. Certified professionals place multiple monitors, account for HVAC schedules and pressure zones, and produce documentation an employer, school board, or property manager can act on. Mitigation for commercial buildings uses the same sub-slab depressurization principle as homes, engineered at larger scale.

Radon-Resistant New Construction (RRNC)

If you are building in the Cedar Valley — a home on the Cedar Falls south side, a spec house in Hudson, a commercial shell — the cheapest radon system you will ever buy is the one that goes in during construction. Passive RRNC means a gas-permeable layer under the slab, sealed penetrations, and a vertical vent pipe roughed in from sub-slab to roof. If the finished building tests high, adding a fan turns the passive stack into a full active system for a few hundred dollars instead of a $1,000–$2,500 retrofit.

In a state where the average indoor level runs more than six times the national average, roughing in RRNC is the obvious call — and both the EPA and the Black Hawk County Board of Health recommend radon-resistant construction for new builds.
